A Bear is Born….. Part 1

Hey Guys!
We've been asked to put together a 'step by step guide' for the creation and conception of a BTB figurine... The full 'product development' guide will be added into the website over the next coming weeks, but until then we thought we would put it up section by section onto the blog...

Conception

When a man and a woman love each other very much…..Maybe not – that is a whole other kind of conception.

The Bad Taste Bears are the brain child of Peter Underhill. Where the concept comes from nobody really knows – well we do but if we told you we would have to kill you.

Whilst Peter tends to have a free reign when it comes to the subject matter, occasionally he has to design to a certain theme – for example: The new Music Range had to have musicians as bears.

Peter sends his ideas through to the gang at Odd Co in the form of sketches. The best ideas are then shortlisted and any amendments made before the sketch goes to our master sculptor Sir Wayne of Taylor.

1st Trimester – Sculpting & Componants

Before giving a sculptor one of Pete’s sketches to work from, it is sometimes necessary to make some components in “hard”, where it would be too difficult or unsuitable to sculpt in wax. Some good examples are bears like Mike (the microwave,) Fabio (Egg,) and Kongo (Building.) These parts are made using a variety of materials including modelling board, plastics and resin. We use workshop machinery such as a milling machine and lathe to do this

Wayne Taylor is the chief sculptor for the Bad Taste Bears. The sculpting process begins with a lump of wax, a bit of wood and a metal prong (who’d have thought it?). It is at this point that Wayne sculpting skills transform Peters 2d sketch in a 3d wax model.

BEHIND THE SCENES PHOTOS

Hey Guys!
Nigel is a pretty busy bee at the moment (as you will see in these photos) so he has allowed me the reigns of the BTB blog!? Oh dear.... Anyway, hopefully with the two of us at the helm we might get a bit more content going.... Here's some more photos from in and around the new OddCo.Ltd. office.

Whew!

I was gonna start by saying sorry for not blogging for ages, but I'm not. Not really. I've got a good excuse.
The truth is we've all been really busy.
There was the move, closely followed by the event. Two very big things to sort out, at sort of the same time as well as the whole making and selling bears thing.

Personally I wanted to make another game for the event, and I wanted to do another one of my super mint cool bear mods. You know, put you all to shame, and show you how it's done and all that. (Good job I didn't have the time. I doubt I'd be able to do better than some of you guys)

Well anyway I think we're caught up now. Back to normal. Whatever that is.
Looking forward to the next event. (I was up for just having all other events from now on having a burlesque theme, but I got out voted)

This drawing from Pete sort of sums up how we were feeling after the moving the warehouse. That was a lot of boxes to move! Nearly 40!

Go on then here's another warehouse fail.

We've Moved!

Whew! I'm tired now! I'm not saying it was all me. A couple of the others helped a bit.
It's not finished yet. Very much a work in progress.

I don't know why Bobo is so tired he hardly did anything...

Here's me being clever with a camera...

We make bears, and...

Amongst other things we like to do key rings, but in the interest of mixing things up a bit, and keeping things fresh why don't we do the next lot of key rings a little different than the last lot?
No I don't want to. I fear change Whaaaa!

Having said that...

The key rings we do are great for people like my wife who like a nice big unloseable bunch. She'd pile on a bear or two. A heart shaped thing, something with a photo in it. One of those things that aren't a pound coin but work in shopping trolleys etc.

I prefer to slim things down a little...

Something like this might be nice...

Oo yeah, that might work. Light, slim, sexy. I can see that working as a bear key ring. Shame we don't do anything like that...

Hold your horses there fella. What's this?
It looks like I'm doing the art work for such key rings now!
I take from this that I'm doing a few of the movie bears, but I can't imagine myself not doing a few classic bears too.

You're obviously gonna want a bear that speaks of your own personality. I might go for the Joker bear, because I like jokes and mass murder.

Go on Blog!

A word of warning. This post contains links to other places on the interweb. Click them and won't find yourself on a hardcore porn site, but you may find yourself outside your comfort zone. (unless you're comfortable with blue eyeliner that is.)

Go on do a blog. Why? Because Kirsty wishes it. That is why. (competition rules here)
If you're anything like these guys you'll do what you're told, because you know that women know best. (and it's hard to say no to kirsters)

The idea is that you, the blog reader, become the blog writer.

The nice thing about a blog is that it can be about just about anything. That last link is to bloggers with an interest in "female led relationships"!?! I've checked and there's more people with an interest in buses ! At first I thought that maybe "buses" was code for something else a bit more interesting, but no Buses means buses.

There's this guy in with those guys, who I would have thought would have got on well with my dad.
While my mates dad down the road had the poster of the tennis girl scratching her bum in the loo, my dad plumped for paintings of classic cars all over the house.

As I write this there are 313 people on blogger who list Satan in their interests.
Not to worry though 132000 people list God amongst their interests. So, er, yeah god! Go god! Whoop!
30 nerds and/or geeks on blogger are into "zx spectrum"
Whilst 2200 are into "time travel"
A rather pitiful 6 who declare an interest in "bad taste bears"
168000 are into "sex" that's more than God!
And perhaps sickest of all there are 10 who like "blue eyeliner" Yeah I know. There are some freaks out there!

So a blog can be by anyone about anything.
Sadly "My husband is an asshole" was last updated in 2005
And "my husband is crap" stopped in September 2008. So I take from that, that men as a whole are getting better. (apart from maybe me)

You are free to blog about anything you like, but I guess it won't win our little competition unless it's about bears. (at least loosely)

And you are free from constraints too. (someone on one of the forums complained that i'd aligned text centre on one post, as apposed to to left, so I was asked to change it!)
We're following some blogs now. Just go into our profile and have a look. If your thing ain't there then leave a comment or something to let me know about you.

You go girl(or boy)friend!

Nigel

Humm... Semi nudity...

Ah now, being, what some might call, a "deconstructed man" if there's one thing I like it's a semi naked lady.
If I were to be pressed further as to what I might like more than a semi naked lady I would have to say two semi naked ladies.
Which is why I'm giving serious consideration to attending the bad taste bears Bearlesque Masquerade on Saturday 18th April.
Burlesque is actually better than just plain old ordinary semi nudity, as there's more than just skin on display there's actually talent too. A performance. Something a little more interesting than a straight strip.
I'm keeping my ears closed to the details of the performances so that I may be maximally pleasantly surprised.
You ladies will be able to appreciate the performance I'm sure. (All women are a bit bisexual too so that will help)
It's also important that you insure that your man gets a good seat, as you'll be able to reap the rewards later in the boudoir.
Does it matter who puts the petrol in the engine as long as it's you who gets to drive round the race track? And by that I mean he might want to have sex with you.
I'm being a little base I know. It is an art form. But it's one of those art forms that can be appreciated on two levels.

As well as the semi nudity there will also probably be some other stuff. Click here to find out what.
Personally they had me at Burlesque...
